The Brown Tie
Not so Boring Anymore

When you wear a brown tie you create a sense of warmth and openness about you. Whether it is deep chocolate or light ochre, brown creates a down to earth air that makes people want to approach you.

Brown is a color as timeless and ageless as the earth itself. The soil is brown, as is the bark on trees and the fur of many animals (including the hair on human's heads). It is so common to our existence as human beings that it has no special connotations culturally as do many other colors.

Red, yellow, green, these are all colors with strong meanings depending on the part of the world you reside in, but brown does not. When we think of the color we think of nature, earthiness, and warmth. It is a calm color that soothes rather than excites.

Matching a Brown Tie with your Suit and Shirt

Of course, you may question how to match a brown necktie to your suit and shirt. You can wear a white shirt, because it goes with everything, but because brown is such a basic color you may want to shake things up a little bit with color and/or patterns.

A great example would be a chocolate brown suit matched with a pink shirt and a chocolate brown necktie. If you want to jazz things up a bit try adding pink Stripes or Geometric Patterns to the tie for a really classy ensemble. Of course, if you are wearing a Solid Color Tie then it is a good idea to have a patterned shirt to liven things up a bit.

Also try to remember that as a general rule brown and black do not mix. Think of them as foundation colors that the rest of an outfit is built on, and you can't lay two foundations on top of each other. Some other colors that go well with brown include: baby blue, all shades of green, navy blue, burgundy, deep orange, and lilac.

Hunting for a Brown Tie

If you are looking for a brown necktie, chances are that you won't have to look very far. Ties in shades ranging from taupe to chocolate are available at all of your favorite retailers. If you haven't had a chance to scoop out your favorite store yet, you can easily find what you are looking for on the internet.

Try Forzieri.com for great basic ties from the in-house line, and beautiful floral prints by Kenzo. I also like Roberto Cavalli's brown animal print ties, though they are not for the faint of heart.

Thomaspink.com, out of London, also has a great line of ties in all shades of brown, ranging in patterns from stripes to flowers. For a quality tie from Europe, this is a great place to go. No matter where you go you are bound to find the brown necktie you are looking for.

Hopefully we've been able to lift the veil from your eyes and help you to view brown as a hot and trendy color.

If you are looking to create a warm image through clothing, then the best way is to base your ensemble off of a brown pallet. What better way to do so than by incorporating a brown tie into your wardrobe?
