Four in Hand Knot Video
The Most Commonly Worn Tie Knot

Four in Hand knot is one of the four classic necktie knots which is most commonly worn in the Western World. The other three are Windsor, Half Windsor and Pratt Knots.

It is the most fastest and easiest way to tie among the four necktie knots, having asysmetric shape and small tie knot. Because of its small size, it's more suitable for a regular spread collar and works well with ties made of thick fabrics.

How to Tie a Four in Hand Tie Knot

Step 1
Drape the necktie around your collar. Wide end on your right, adjust the tie so that the wide end is approximately 12 inches below the narrow end.

Step 2
Hold the narrow end with right hand and cross the wide end over the narrow end to form a 'X'.

Step 3
Bring the wide end behind the narrow end. Now the wide end is back on your right with the seam side facing outward. Use your left hand thumb and first two fingers to hold at the crossing point where the narrow and wide end meet. Try to position the point as close to your neck as possible. By now you should see a loop being created around your neck.

Step 4
Cross the wide end over in front of the narrow end. The wide end now was on the left of the narrow end with the seam side facing you.

Step 5
Bring the wide end up and pull through the loop.

Step 6
Slip the tip of the wide end through the knot just created and pull it through all the way to tighten the knot. However, it should not be too tight at this moment.

Step 7
Hold the narrow end with left hand and place your right hand thumb and index finger at the tip of the knot, pull the narrow end down and push the knot up snugly to your collar.
